There are many causes of the disease and the outcome of treatment for erythrodermatitis is not the same for different causes.
For drug-induced erysipelas, the prognosis is generally good with aggressive treatment based on discontinuation of the allergy-causing drug, and recurrence is generally unlikely after cure without further use of the same or similar drugs.
For erythrodermasias that appear on the basis of pre-existing skin diseases, symptomatic treatment of erythrodermasias after active treatment of the original disease and avoiding the use of some irritating drugs after recovery are also less likely to cause recurrence.
For erythrodermic disease caused by malignancy, it is more difficult to treat and has a longer course as the primary disease is more difficult to control.
