Some people with novel coronavirus infections will have diarrhea, but diarrhea symptoms are not a basis for diagnosis. Diarrhea can be caused by a variety of factors, such as rotavirus and norovirus infections, and can sometimes occur with the common viral cold. People with a history of close contact who develop diarrhea are advised to isolate themselves at home, and if their symptoms improve, they are not infected. If the patient’s symptoms gradually worsen in the following days and manifestations such as fever, dry cough, malaise and dyspnea occur, the patient should be seen promptly at a local fever clinic and, if necessary, have the pathogens tested for a clear diagnosis.
