Post-operative instructions for patients with otitis media

       Many patients with otitis media always have a lot of questions after surgery and do not get timely answers due to contact problems. I will share the common questions with you here. These instructions are limited to patients with otitis media who are hospitalized in our hospital.  1.Post-operative otitis media requires a change of medication, which usually takes about 2 months, so please visit the outpatient clinic on time to change the medication.  2. It is normal for blood to flow out of the ear after surgery. Depending on the extent of the lesion and the surgery, the blood may last for 2-3 months.  3. It is not normal to have purulent discharge or foul-smelling discharge at any time, and you need to contact me promptly for early consultation.  4. Numbness in the ear usually lasts for 6-12 months.  5. When the ear is filled, the cotton ball at the opening of the ear canal needs to be switched daily.  6.After the ears are open for about one month after surgery, you should not continue to plug the ears with cotton balls, but allow more ventilation.  7. You can take a shower after the wound heals, but pay attention to keeping the wound dry and clean.  8. There is no contraindication to eating after surgery, you can eat according to your preference.  9.After surgery, try to avoid catching a cold.  10.Keep the outer ear dry and clean after surgery, but please do not scrub yourself in the ear canal.  11.Itchy ears after surgery are mostly normal.
