High platelet distribution width

Platelet distribution width refers to the dispersion of platelet volume size. High platelet distribution width indicates unequal platelet size, some platelets are larger, some are smaller, commonly seen in acute myeloid leukemia, megaloblastic anemia, splenectomy, thrombophilia. 1. Acute myeloid leukemia: routine blood tests in patients with acute myeloid leukemia often show high platelet distribution width as well as Blood smear examination shows primitive and naive cells. Patients with acute myeloid leukemia are usually given chemotherapy to prevent infection and bleeding, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation can be performed if available. 2. Patients with megaloblastic anemia can correct the anemia by first removing the cause and then supplementing with folic acid and vitamin B12. 3. Splenectomy: Splenectomy can cause blood picture changes, which can manifest as elevated platelets and high platelet distribution width. Half a month after splenectomy, absolute bed rest, avoid strenuous activities, strengthen nutrition, and maintain a happy mood. 4, thrombotic disease: for patients with thrombotic disease, blood clotting is more obvious, and some patients may have high platelet distribution width. Such patients are generally treated with thrombolytic drugs. High platelet distribution width is often used as a diagnostic basis for abnormal bone marrow hematopoietic function and blood disorders. When a high platelet distribution width occurs, it is recommended that the cause of the condition be identified and targeted treatment be given according to the cause.
