It takes about 3 months for the bowel to recover after stoma reentry surgery, depending on the individual’s physical condition and diet. There are generally 2 incisions in stoma reentry surgery, the soft tissue incision in the abdomen and the intestinal anastomosis in the intestine. Leakage of the intestinal anastomosis may occur at the intestinal anastomosis, mostly occurring 3-12 days after surgery. If no anastomotic leak occurs within this time period, it means that the intestinal anastomosis is basically safe, and the intestinal function will generally recover in about 3 weeks. However, some patients may need 2-3 months for intestinal function to recover, depending on factors such as the patient’s age, condition, and dietary habits. Patients are advised to take more rest after surgery, avoid strenuous activities and overexertion; pay attention to a light diet, eat foods that are easy to digest and absorb, and avoid spicy stimulation; also pay attention to frequent observation of the wound, and regular follow-up visits can be made.
