Old tuberculosis does not require treatment. Old tuberculosis is the formation of foci of fibrous scarring and calcification that remain after the patient has been treated with anti-tuberculosis drugs for previous tuberculosis infection. Some patients with tuberculosis can heal on their own because of their strong resistance, or they can form old tuberculosis. Patients with this type of tuberculosis do not have Mycobacterium tuberculosis in their lung tissue, much less active Mycobacterium tuberculosis lesions, and no Mycobacterium tuberculosis is coughed up in the patient’s sputum. Therefore, old tuberculosis is a stable lesion and a stationary lesion, which does not require treatment and does not change under dynamic observation. Although old tuberculosis does not require treatment, patients still need to maintain good living habits, strengthen their resistance and immunity, and avoid recurrence of tuberculosis due to exertion, cold, and repeated respiratory infections.
