Giant thyroid swelling

On April 2009, a 60-year-old man from Suichuan County, Ji’an City, came to our department due to difficulty in breathing, and I found a huge meatball hanging from the patient’s neck. It turned out that the patient was suffering from a huge goiter. After detailed questioning, we learned that the patient had a prominent tumor in his neck since he was 20 years old, but due to his family’s financial difficulties and inability to seek medical treatment, and because the patient did not have any discomfort at the beginning of his illness, the patient had not paid attention to it, and it had been growing for more than 40 years. Today, the longest part of this neck tumor has reached 30 centimeters. Since this giant tumor has seriously affected his normal life, and he had difficulty in breathing a few days ago, he had to come to the hospital urgently for treatment accompanied by his children. At that time, I diagnosed the patient as having a huge goiter with 2 degrees of respiratory distress. After completing relevant tests and making good preoperative preparations, I successfully removed the goiter, which weighed 738 grams, and the patient was discharged from the hospital after the operation with complete healing. The following are the photos of the patient before and after surgery: The patient’s preoperative appearance was so large that an “L” flap was made in the surgical incision to find the laryngeal nerve to free the mass and cut off the mass, which was as big as a melon and weighed 755 grams.
