What does smooth muscle tumor mean?

Smooth muscle tumors are benign tumors that occur in the smooth muscle cells of patients, mostly in women aged 30-50 years old, with most patients developing in the genital tract, some in the skin, and a few in the upper respiratory tract, digestive tract, and urinary tract. The cause of smooth muscle tumor is not completely clear, but it is generally considered to be related to genetics, age, obesity, poor diet, etc. Some female patients have frequent abortions. For example, smooth muscle tumors in the external genital area may cause heavy menstrual flow and prolonged menstruation without pain, and may compress the bladder and cause urinary tract irritation if the tumor is too large. The diagnosis of smooth muscle tumors is usually confirmed by histological examination, when smooth muscle cells are observed to be long spindle-shaped or appear in a rippled, parallel arrangement. Treatment is usually by surgical excision, after which the wound should be kept clean to avoid infection. If the patient cannot take surgery, he or she can also use nifedipine to relieve pain under the guidance of a doctor, or use freezing or heat to help relieve the patient’s discomfort.
