The main clinical manifestation of laryngeal polyps is intermittent or persistent hoarseness. The severity of hoarseness is related to the location and size of the polyp, with polyps growing at the free edge of the vocal folds, hoarseness is obvious and symptoms appear early, polyps on the surface of the vocal folds have little effect on vocalisation, larger broad-based polyps can cause loss of voice, and huge polyps can block the vocal folds, causing inspiratory laryngeal stridor and dyspnoea.
