What should I look for in a skull fracture?

A typical linear fracture of the skull without secondary damage can be left untreated and can be observed and left to heal on its own. However, the following conditions must be noted when they occur. 1, there is a fracture fragment penetrating into the skull, which can directly cause brain and blood vessel damage and bring in foreign body to cause serious intracranial infection, and should strive for an early surgery. 2, skull depression fracture and comminuted fracture can directly compress and damage the brain tissue, open fracture can increase the chance of intracranial infection, so early surgery should be performed; closed fracture should be decided according to the analysis of examination results. 3. Linear fractures passing through the middle dural artery should be closely observed for intracranial hematoma, and it is better to do CT examination. 4.Linear fractures passing through the sagittal sinus or transverse sinus may cause venous sinus hemorrhage, and should be closely observed for changes in condition, preferably with dynamic CT scan. 5.Fracture of the pterygoid saddle May cause II, III, IV, V, VI cranial nerve injury; if bone fragments are suspected to be compressed, early surgical investigation should be performed. 6.Rock bone fracture May directly cause Ⅶ and Ⅷ cranial nerve injury. 7.The fracture of paranasal sinus, middle ear and mastoid may have open skull base, and infection should be prevented and controlled.
