The life expectancy of patients with old TB is usually the same as normal, but some patients with severe disease may have their life expectancy affected. Older TB refers to lesions in the lungs that remain after a history of previous TB has been cured and are usually stable, with dormant Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the lesions. Most patients with tuberculosis have healed inflammation of the lesions and have fibrosis-like lesions in the lungs, which usually do not require treatment and can be observed with regular follow-up. Older patients may only survive for about 1 year. In addition, patients with old tuberculosis should pay attention to rest, avoid overexertion, staying up late and getting cold, eat a light diet with high quality protein, exercise appropriately and follow up regularly.
