When a three-year-old child has a cough and fever, the first thing to do is to give the child a fever reduction. If the temperature is above 38.5 degrees, you can give the child oral ibuprofen suspension and acetaminophen suspension to reduce the fever. The exact dosage should be used according to the child’s weight and according to the instructions. If the temperature is below 38.5 degrees, you can first treat the cough without fever-reducing treatment. If the child has an uncomfortable fever, physical cooling may be performed first. Wiping the whole body with warm water, such as the forehead, armpits and groin, may assist the child’s temperature to drop.
