The numbers you don’t know about cancer!

The 2012 China Tumor Registry Annual Report, recently released by the National Tumor Registry Center, shows that there are about 3.12 million new cases of tumors each year, an average of 8,550 per day, which means that six people are diagnosed with cancer every minute in the country. And the incidence rate of tumors in China has been increasing in recent decades, and experts predict that in 2015, the annual number of new cases will reach 3.64 million. Age group: the incidence rate doubles from the age of 40 From the age group point of view, the incidence rate of malignant tumors nationally is 87.07/100,000 in the age group of 35 to 39 years old, and almost doubles in the age group of 40 to 44 years old to 154.53/100,000; the incidence rate of people over the age of 50 years old accounts for more than 80% of the total incidence rate, and the incidence rate of cancer is more than 1% in the age group of 60 years old, and reaches the peak in the age of 80 years old. Mortality rate: 13% due to cancer From the perspective of mortality rate, the national tumor mortality rate is 180.54/100,000, and the number of deaths due to cancer reaches 2.7 million cases every year. The chance of our residents dying of cancer is 13%, i.e. 1 in every 7 to 8 people die of cancer. Tumor mortality rate is higher among men than women, at 1.68:1. Disease types: Lung cancer is the “top of all cancers” From the viewpoint of disease types, lung cancer is the first malignant tumor in the country, followed by gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, and esophageal cancer, with the top 10 malignant tumors accounting for 76.39% of all malignant tumors. The top 10 malignant tumors accounted for 76.39% of all malignant tumors. Lung cancer is still the leading malignant tumor in the country in terms of mortality, followed by liver, stomach, esophagus and colorectal cancers. The highest mortality rate for both sexes was lung cancer. Other major causes of death for men include liver, stomach, esophagus and colorectal cancers; for women, stomach, liver, colorectal and breast cancers. Geography: Henan and Hebei have more esophageal cancers. Data show that the incidence of cancer in China has a clear geographical distribution, in which the high incidence area of esophageal cancer is mainly concentrated in Henan, Hebei and other central plains; the high incidence area of gastric cancer is mainly concentrated in the northwestern and coastal provinces and municipalities, such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, Gansu, Qinghai, etc. It is more prominent; and the high incidence area of liver cancer is concentrated in the southeastern coastal areas and northeastern Jilin, etc. The incidence rate is increasing year by year. Incidence rate: the incidence rate is increasing year by year Why the incidence rate is increasing year by year, which has the factor of aging gradually aggravated, the number of morbidity and mortality will rise, and the incidence rate of each type of tumor will rise. If the aging factor is removed, we will find that the incidence rates of lung cancer and breast cancer are increasing, stomach cancer and esophageal cancer are decreasing, and liver cancer may be flat. Despite the seriousness of the cancer situation, with the advancement of modern science and technology, cancer is no longer incurable and cancer is not equal to death! In fact, in recent years, more and more cancer patients have overcome the disease and recovered their health. As a professional oncologist, I would like to promote and popularize the knowledge of cancer, call for the new concept that cancer is a preventable and curable disease, and suggest that we should pay attention to our daily life health care, and find out tumors for early diagnosis and treatment.
