How long does it take for mercury poisoning to set in?

Mercury poisoning usually has no incubation period and can strike relatively quickly, usually within minutes to tens of minutes, but the exact extent varies from person to person. Once mercury enters the body, it immediately inhibits sulfhydryl-containing enzyme activity and binds to proteins in the body causing a denaturation reaction. If a small amount of mercury is poisoned, the patient will experience mild poisoning in about five minutes, such as dizziness, nausea and diarrhea, etc. At this time, the symptoms of poisoning can be relieved by drinking a lot of water. If the mercury poisoning is caused by inhaling a large amount of mercury vapor in a short period of time, the patient may immediately develop symptoms such as coughing, chest pain and difficulty in breathing, and needs to go to the hospital emergency room immediately for emergency treatment and try to apply antidotes before kidney function impairment occurs, as well as give treatment such as hemodialysis or blood lavage. In addition, before emergency medical treatment is unavailable, those who have been poisoned by mercury by mistake can drink a lot of milk or egg white to dilute and neutralize the poison, or eat a lot of fiber-like food to increase intestinal peristalsis and promote the discharge of the poison.
