How to tell if a cough is a new type of pneumonia

To determine whether a cough is caused by novel coronavirus infection with novel coronavirus pneumonia, the patient must have an epidemiologic history, i.e., whether he or she has been to an infected area or had close contact with people in an infected area, and the patient may also have respiratory symptoms such as fever and dyspnea in addition to cough. The patient’s early blood routine white blood cell count is normal or decreased, lymphocyte count is decreased, and ground glass shadow is found in the lung CT. If the above conditions are met, novel coronavirus pneumonia can be highly suspected and the diagnosis can be confirmed pathogenically by nucleic acid testing of the patient’s virus.
