Non-thyroidal morbid syndrome

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

Non-thyroidal morbid syndrome is the effect of acute and chronic non-thyroidal disorders of the organism in severe disease, trauma, stress, etc. on the functional parameters of the normal thyroid gland, which itself is not diseased.

Department

Endocrinology

Synonyms

Normal Thyroid Function Morbid Syndrome

Clinical symptoms

Usually there are no obvious clinical symptoms, mainly manifested as symptoms of the primary disease.

Hazards

A persistent decrease in thyroid hormones may cause a critical condition.

Examination

Physical examination, thyroid hormone examination, etc.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is made on the basis of medical history and thyroid hormone examination.

Treatment

Treat the primary disease.

Curability

Aggressive treatment of the primary disease may improve symptoms.

Dietary recommendations

Nutritionally balanced diet.

Etiology

Etiology

Often associated with serious illness, trauma, stress, medications, etc.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

Typical symptoms

Generally there are no obvious clinical symptoms, mainly manifested as symptoms of the original disease, without thyroid function abnormalities.

Diagnostic basis

1. Medical history: history of non-thyroidal diseases with clear diagnosis. 2. Clinical manifestations: symptoms of primary disease without hypothyroidism. 3. Thyroid stimulating hormone levels are approximately normal. 4. (1) Low T3 syndrome: TT3 and FT3 are decreased, TT4 and FT4 are normal, TSH is normal, and rT3 is elevated. (2) Low T4 syndrome: TT4 and FT4 are lowered, while TT3 and FT3 are also lowered, TSH is normal or lowered, and rT3 may be elevated. (3) High T4 syndrome: less common, TT4 is elevated, FT4 is normal, TT3 may be normal, FT3 is normal or decreased, and rT3 is elevated.

Treatment

Treatment guidelines

Treatment of the primary disease is the main focus.

Drug therapy

Aggressive treatment of the primary disease, thyroid hormone therapy should not be given until it is clear that the thyroid gland itself is diseased or that there is a non-thyroidal morbid syndrome.

Prognosis

Prognosis is related to the primary disease, and aggressive treatment of the primary disease may improve the prognosis. Low T4 syndrome has a high mortality rate, and severe low T3 with low T4 syndrome has the worst prognosis.

Nursing care

Daily care

1. Open windows and ventilate regularly, keep the environment quiet and clean, and maintain appropriate temperature and humidity. 2. Live a regular life, avoid staying up late at night and overworking, and exercise appropriately to enhance body resistance. 3. Release worries, enhance confidence, maintain an optimistic attitude, and learn to self-adjustment, so as to avoid bad moods from triggering or exacerbating the disease. 4.

Dietary management

Nutritional balanced diet.
