Risk factors for coronary heart disease include modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. Understanding and intervening in risk factors can help in the prevention and treatment of CHD. Modifiable risk factors include: hypertension, dyslipidemia (high total cholesterol or high LDL cholesterol, high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol), overweight/obesity, hyperglycemia/diabetes mellitus, poor lifestyle including smoking, irrational diets (high in fat, cholesterol, calories, etc.), physical inactivity, excessive alcohol consumption, and psychosocial factors. Non-modifiable risk factors are: gender, age, and family history. In addition, associated with infections such as cytomegalovirus, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Helicobacter pylori. Episodes of coronary heart disease are often associated with seasonal changes, emotional excitement, increased physical activity, satiety, heavy smoking and alcohol consumption.
