Is choking on food esophageal cancer?

Most of the patients with esophageal cancer have choking symptom, so does choking necessarily mean esophageal cancer? Does the absence of choking mean that it is impossible to have esophageal cancer? Actually, the answer is not necessarily. In fact, besides esophageal cancer, choking can be caused by many diseases, such as cardia failure, benign esophageal stricture, esophageal spasm, upper esophageal sphincter dysfunction, etc. Also, esophageal cancer may not have any choking symptom in the early stage, and the symptoms of choking and progressive dysphagia will only appear gradually as the disease progresses. Generally speaking, choking caused by benign diseases mostly occurs in young patients, such as cardia achalasia, mostly in young and middle-aged women, and the symptoms are fluctuating and not progressively aggravated; while choking caused by scar stenosis mostly has a history of related trauma or disease. If you do not have a history of related diseases, but gradually develop choking and progressive dysphagia, you should be highly alert, especially if you like to eat hot food and drink alcohol daily, you should go to the hospital for early examination and consultation. Therefore, there is no need to be too anxious and worried if choking on food occurs, as long as you go to a regular hospital for early examination, a clear diagnosis can be easily made.
