Any kind of period of otitis media can cause itching in the ear. It is recommended to first improve the otoscopic examination to clarify the external ear canal and the perforation of the eardrum. For the acute infection period, which may be caused by pus immersion or herpes, you can use hydrogen peroxide solution for cleaning, while paying attention to keeping the area clean and dry. If there is more pus, bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test can be done on the secretion, and the most sensitive drug can be selected for topical treatment according to the test results. If it is caused by herpes, you should use glyburide to reduce fluid exudation, while reducing the consumption of foods such as fish and shrimp and using anti-allergy medication appropriately. When itching of the ear occurs in chronic otitis media, fungal infection should be ruled out as early as possible. Endoscopic examination of the ear reveals dark brown secretions in the external ear canal, and bacterial culture is the confirmatory method. Treatment should be done with sodium bicarbonate soaking and then gradual cleaning, along with topical antifungal medication.
