How to treat astigmatism

Astigmatism is a common refractive error that can occur in people of all ages, mostly due to irregularities in corneal development, and to a lesser extent due to acquired factors such as scarring from corneal lesions. The main treatments for astigmatism are frame glasses, rigid corneal contact lenses and surgery. The specific treatment for astigmatism depends on the degree of astigmatism, age and individual condition. If the astigmatism is low and the age is young, it does not affect the vision much, so it can be observed temporarily and does not need special treatment. If the astigmatism is high and affects your vision at a younger age, you may choose to wear glasses with frames. For adolescents over 18 years of age, in addition to the above two options, surgical treatment is also available. Common surgical options include excimer laser in situ keratomileusis and excimer laser surface keratomileusis. These treatments for astigmatism are generally aimed at a type of refractive error caused by irregular development of the cornea. If the astigmatism is caused by an ocular pathology, such as pterygium invading the corneal tissue, it can also cause astigmatism of the cornea. In this case, surgical treatment of the pterygium is required, and treatment of the primary disease is sufficient.
