Principle
The understanding of Chinese medicine: “medicine and food have the same origin” – food theory
According to Chinese medicine, the reason why food can play a cosmetic role is that it has the same characteristics as medicine, such as the four qi, five tastes, and the general meridian.
From the perspective of the four qi (cold, hot, warm and cool)
Cold and cool foods have the function of nourishing Yin, clearing heat, cooling fire, cooling blood and detoxifying the toxin, such as winter melon, loofah, watermelon, radish, pear, etc.
Warm foods have the function of warming menstruation, helping Yang, invigorating blood, promoting blood circulation and dispersing cold, such as ginger, onion, leek, garlic, chili, mutton, etc.
From the five flavors (acid, bitter, sweet, pungent and salty)
Pungent foods have the function of dispersing and regulating qi and blood, such as white radish, onion, ginger, pepper, coriander, etc.
Sweet and light (sweet and flat) foods mostly have the function of nourishing and strengthening the spleen, such as yam, barley, etc.
Sour and astringent foods mostly have the function of fixing essence and softening the liver, such as pineapple, umeboshi, etc.
Bitter foods have the effect of diarrhea, dry dampness, lowering rebellion, such as bitter melon, wolfberry, etc.
Salty foods have the function of nourishing the kidney, filling the essence and softening the firmness, such as sea cucumber, squid, dried scallop, oyster, seaweed, nori, etc.
From the point of view of meridian
The attribution of food to the meridian refers to the selection of food to the internal organs and meridians, that is, a certain food mainly on the human body a certain meridian or a few meridians have obvious effects, while the role of other meridians or internal organs is small or almost no effect
For example: pears, bananas, mulberries, etc. have the effect of generating fluid and clearing heat. But pears focus on clearing lung heat, bananas focus on clearing large intestine heat, mulberry is focused on clearing the liver heat.
Modern medicine and nutrition understanding – various nutrients and beauty
Protein is the main component of the body’s cells, and is also the basic material that makes up the skin.
Fats maintain body temperature, fix tissues and protect organs.
Vitamins.
Vitamin A: the main function is to maintain the health and vision of epithelial cells, it can make the skin soft and tender
Vitamin B1 has the effect of helping digestion, preventing obesity and moisturizing the skin. Neuritis and seborrheic dermatitis are often associated with vitamin B1 deficiency.
Vitamin B2: involved in many redox processes in the body, involved in protein, sugar and fat metabolism, especially closely related to fat metabolism.
Vitamin C: is a necessary component of the composition of the intercellular matrix, involved in the redox process in the body, can increase the denseness of capillaries, and can interfere with the production of melanin, beneficial to keep the skin white and tender
Vitamin E: can moisturize the skin, ease the dryness of the skin, and delay the aging of the skin
Trace elements
Trace elements in human body mainly include iron, zinc, copper, chromium, manganese, cobalt, molybdenum, fluorine, iodine, alum, selenium, nickel, etc.
Water
2/3 of the human body is water, many physiological activities in the human body such as digestion, absorption, secretion, excretion, etc. must be carried out in aqueous solution.
The principles of dietary beauty
Comprehensive and balanced food intake – five flavors and a combination of meat and vegetables
”Five tastes enter five organs”
”Five grains for nourishment, five fruits for help, five dishes for enrichment, the smell combined and served to replenish essence and benefit qi”
Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents
(Chinese Nutrition Society, April 1997)
Variety of foods, with cereals being the mainstay.
Eat more vegetables, fruits and potatoes.
Frequent consumption of milk, beans or their products.
Regularly eat moderate amounts of fish, poultry, eggs and lean meat, and less fatty meat and meat and oil.
Eating a balanced amount of food and physical activity to maintain an appropriate weight.
Eat light and less salty food.
If alcohol is consumed, it should be limited.
Eat clean and hygienic food that is not spoiled.
The nutritional benefits of vegetables are fivefold.
First, to increase nutrition helps digestion
Second, to prevent the occurrence of certain nutritional deficiencies
Three is to prevent obesity
Fourth, it is conducive to the unblocking of blood vessels
Fifth is to prevent and cure cancer
Focus on acid-base characteristics
Alkaline food can maintain the weak alkaline environment of body fluids, promote blood circulation and prevent skin roughness and aging.
Generally speaking, meat, rice and noodle foods are acidic foods, while fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and milk are alkaline foods.
Eat in moderation
Regular and quantitative
”If you eat and drink from time to time, your stomach and intestines will be injured.”
? Sun Simiao: “Food should be eaten in small quantities, not in large quantities.”
? “Breakfast should be full, lunch should be good, and dinner should be small.”
Folk proverb: “dinner less bite, live to ninety-nine”
Modern people have done such an experiment: two groups of people eating the same food at the same time, a group of people is at seven o’clock in the morning to eat, the other group at 5:30 in the evening to eat (these people eat this meal a day), the results of the morning to eat the weight of people gradually decline, while the evening to eat the weight of people continue to rise.
This shows that “when to eat, more important than what to eat.”

Prevention of Facial Skin Diseases
As we age, facial skin will inevitably encounter some problems, such as lack of moisture, elasticity, the appearance of dry skin, loss of luster and moist feeling, which makes the skin sagging, wrinkles appear; or because of work and life stress, insomnia and dreaminess, bringing facial pigmentation formation; and so on and so forth, to name a few.
The above information is provided by my college classmate, Professor Cai Jianwei of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Three common facial skin diseases
I. Melasma
Chloasma, also known as liver spot, is a kind of facial melanosis, a pigmentation spot that occurs on the face. Chloasma is mainly caused by endocrine disorders, mental stress, various diseases (liver and kidney insufficiency, gynecological diseases, diabetes), as well as the lack of vitamins in the body and the stimulation of external chemical drugs.
According to Chinese medicine, liver disorder, qi stagnation, prolonged depression, fire, burning of yin and blood, and poor blood flow can lead to disharmony of qi and blood on the face; weak spleen qi, unhealthy transportation and transformation, unable to produce essence, then qi and blood cannot moisten the face; insufficient kidney yang, kidney essence deficiency and other pathological changes can lead to chloasma on the face.
Clinical manifestations: light brown or light black spots, irregular in shape, symmetrically distributed on the forehead. The skin of the face such as eyebrows, cheeks, nose and upper lip.
Preventive care.
1. Pay attention to the regularity of life, avoid staying up late, excessive consumption of coffee, cola, strong tea, wine and other stimulating drinks, and you can eat more vegetables and fruits, etc.
2, pay attention to sun protection.
3, keep the mood relaxed and happy.
4.Use as little cosmetics as possible.
Acne
Acne is commonly known as “acne”, but the incidence of acne in the post-pubescent female population is increasing, which is related to the excessive pressure of life and work of post-pubescent females, irregular life, abnormal endocrine environment, and the clogging of pores caused by makeup.
Generally, post-pubertal acne is characterized by acne and small inflammatory papules, with a longer rash absorption cycle.
According to Chinese medicine, post-pubertal acne is mainly caused by wind-heat in the lung, damp-heat in the intestines and stomach, phlegm-dampness in the spleen, blood stasis in the liver, and yin deficiency in the liver and kidneys.
Preventive care.
1, diet to avoid spicy and stimulating, greasy, beef and mutton, hot pot, small rooster, dates, cinnamon and other hot foods, as well as milk, foreign fast food and other foods containing high androgens, you can take more soy milk.
2, pay attention to regular life, avoid staying up late
3. Try to use less cosmetics to avoid acne caused by clogged pores.
4, for women of childbearing age, pay attention to regular health checks to avoid acne caused by polycystic ovary syndrome, etc.
Follicular worm infection, alcoholism, spicy food, high temperature and cold stimulation, digestion, and endocrine disorders are thought to contribute to the development of this disease.
Third, hormone-dependent dermatitis
This disease is a dermatitis caused by the long-term repeated improper use of topical hormones. Because hormones have obvious short-term effects on common skin diseases, they are used for a long time, or because some cosmetic products are added with hormone ingredients, and the facial skin easily becomes dependent on hormones, and skin changes such as skin atrophy, thinning, capillary dilation, pigmentation, and skin wrinkling and aging occur.
Clinical manifestations: skin erythema, papules, dry flaking, atrophy, atrophy lines, capillary dilation, purpura, acne, pigmentation abnormalities, rosacea-like dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, photosensitivity, hirsutism, ringworm, ichthyosis-like changes and other secondary symptoms.
Preventive care.
Avoid eating spicy food, seafood, fish, shrimp, crab, beef and mutton, etc.
The most important thing is to stop using any hormonal topical medication.
For contact dermatitis, a patch test is recommended to identify the specific allergen and to avoid contact in daily life.
For cosmetic dermatitis, it is recommended to avoid cosmetics, especially those with added preservatives.
Avoid eating spicy and fried foods, especially during the onset of the disease. Usually eat lightly, avoid foods that can cause allergies, such as wine and seafood, and eat more fresh vegetables or fruits.
Usually pay attention to exercise, improve physical fitness and enhance immunity.
