Not all cases of paediatric urolithiasis require surgery. Your doctor may recommend conservative treatment first in children who meet the following criteria.
The stone is located in the kidney and/or ureter.
The stone is less than 0.6 cm in diameter.
The stone has a smooth surface.
There is no obstruction in the urinary tract below the stone.
If none of the above conservative treatment measures are effective, the doctor will choose a reasonable surgical procedure to remove the stone depending on the child’s condition.
