Astigmatism standards for children 0-6 years old

Astigmatism is not a problem in healthy eyes for children aged 0-6 years. Astigmatism, however, is a pathology, a manifestation of refractive irregularities, caused by the unequal refractive power of parallel light rays entering the eye at different meridians on the eye, which cannot be gathered in a focal point and cannot form a clear object image. Children with astigmatism mostly have symptoms of vision loss, blurred vision and visual fatigue, such as eye pain, headache, blurred vision or double vision. Parents can take their children to the ophthalmology department for visual acuity, visual acuity and optometry examination to confirm the diagnosis. According to the degree of astigmatism, there are mild, moderate, severe and high astigmatism, mild astigmatism refers to diopter less than 1.00, moderate astigmatism is diopter in 1.00-2.00, severe astigmatism is diopter in 2.00-3.00 and high astigmatism is diopter above 3.00. Astigmatism can be caused by congenital abnormal corneal growth or by acquired factors, including eyelid and corneal diseases or corneal surgery, which may also affect the curvature of the cornea. Long-term improper eye posture in children, such as lying down to look at things, squinting a lot and looking at things in dark light, can cause pressure on the cornea and lead to changes in the curvature of the cornea, resulting in astigmatism. At the same time, astigmatism in children may be accompanied by myopia or hyperopia, which means that the refractive power of the two lines of vision are not in the same plane, and may appear in front of and behind the retina, as well as in a different focus position, resulting in children having difficulty seeing or seeing in double vision. In addition, astigmatism is usually incurable, but can only be controlled and corrected, and its further development can be controlled by identifying the cause. Mild astigmatism usually does not affect vision, and daily use of the eyes can be regulated, or glasses can be worn to correct astigmatism to avoid aggravation. If the astigmatism is caused by a primary disease, it is necessary to actively treat the primary disease to help improve the symptoms.
