Instruction on dental treatment under general anesthesia

Dental treatment under general anesthesia is the treatment of children’s full mouth caries in one time under general anesthesia, which can reduce the pain and fear caused by multiple outpatient treatments for children, and also ensure the quality of dental treatment and improve the medical efficiency. The scope of dental treatment under general anesthesia includes caries filling, root canal treatment, tooth extraction, caries prevention, gum removal and so on. In developed countries such as Europe and America, parents usually cannot accept the treatment of decayed teeth under the state of fear or crying, but once the decay of children’s teeth occurs, the progress is very fast and needs to be treated as early as possible. Therefore, it is very common for children under 4 years old, or children over 4 years old but extremely afraid of dental treatment, as well as children with neurological, mental and intellectual disorders (such as suffering from autism), or even older children aged 15 to 16 years old who need to remove obstructed wisdom teeth, to be willing to choose to use general anesthesia to treat children’s teeth. In China, with the change in medical conditions, technology and concepts, the technology of general anesthesia is becoming more and more mature, and the number of children receiving general anesthesia for dental treatment is increasing year by year. Dental treatment under general anesthesia is an ambulatory treatment done on the same day, and the doctor will check and confirm that the child is eligible for treatment under general anesthesia and arrange for preoperative examination and blood test. After the treatment is completed, the child returns to the recovery ward for 1-1.5 hours to make sure the child is fully awake and can return home. The requirements and precautions for dental treatment under general anesthesia are as follows: 1. Attend the clinic 2 to 3 days in advance on an empty stomach for preoperative examination under general anesthesia. 2.Arrive at the hospital 30 minutes in advance on the day of the treatment appointment so that the child can get used to the environment and the parents sign the consent form for treatment and the consent form for anesthesia. 3.The child should be strictly fasted for 6 hours and water for 4 hours before anesthesia. 4.The child should be in good physical condition before treatment to avoid diseases. 5.The child should eat light food, get enough sleep and empty the bowels the day before treatment. 6.The following conditions should be cancelled or postponed: (1) Fever, cough, runny nose and other upper whistle symptoms.
