For people with hypertension, treatment is lifelong. After oral antihypertensive medication and strict improvement of poor lifestyle habits in many people, blood pressure will gradually drop to normal and may remain in the normal range without medication. Patients in this situation can continue therapeutic lifestyle interventions while suspending antihypertensive medications for a period of time to see if their blood pressure can rebound. If the blood pressure can be well controlled, no medication is needed. However, if the blood pressure drops to normal during oral medication and after lifestyle intervention, and then rebound immediately after stopping the medication, long-term oral antihypertensive medication is required. For some rare cases of secondary hypertension, if the blood pressure is well controlled after the cause is corrected, oral antihypertensive medication can be dispensed with, but timely adjustment is needed according to the patient’s blood pressure value.
