Can lymphedema occur when the affected arm is injured after mastectomy?

There is a risk of lymphedema.

Wounds should be treated promptly after injury to avoid inducing lymphedema due to infection. On a daily basis we need to avoid cuts, scrapes, sprains and insect bites on the affected limb, as well as avoid drawing blood, injections or taking blood pressure on the affected limb. Usually the skin needs to be kept intact and unbroken.

Rubber gloves are recommended for the following everyday injury-prone situations: doing housework, washing/burning dishes, gardening, caring for pets, etc.
