Be cautious with pediatric snoring

Many parents say is snoring in children a disease and should they seek medical attention? This is an important question, children who snore must go to the hospital ENT department for consultation. A direct side effect of snoring in children is that it affects sleep, leading to poor rest and oxygen deprivation, which seriously affects the development of children, such as children’s failure to grow taller, nocturnal urination, sluggishness, inattentiveness and learning. Adenoid hypertrophy, tonsillar hypertrophy, and malformation of the nasal structure are the three main causes of paediatric snoring. Adenoid hypertrophy is a problem that is easily overlooked and sometimes ignored by clinicians. Due to the lack of cooperation in pediatric examinations, it is difficult to detect adenoid hypertrophy, which is usually detected only by performing nasopharyngeal X-rays or CT films. Nowadays, pediatric nasopharyngoscopy can quickly and easily detect adenoids that are enlarged beyond half of the nasopharyngeal spacing, causing snoring, sinusitis, and secretory otitis media, etc., which must be treated surgically. Tonsillar hypertrophy is caused by repeated tonsillar infections, which can cause snoring, myocarditis and nephritis, etc. If the tonsils are more than 2 degrees enlarged or inflamed more than 1-2 times a month, the tonsils can be surgically removed. Pediatric nasal deformities used to be considered to be treated only after the age of 18, but now they can be greatly advanced under pediatric nasal endoscopy. If the deformity seriously affects the ventilation and drainage of the nasal cavity, the surgery is considered to be done early, otherwise it will cause many lesions and even developmental deformities of the nasal and maxillofacial bones. Parents should take it seriously and take their children to the hospital ENT department for examination if the above problems are found.
