Can rectal laxity be treated without surgery? What non-surgical treatments are available?

Complete prolapse of the rectum in adults is treated surgically, while other degrees of rectal mucosal laxity can be treated non-surgically.
Non-surgical treatment includes daily measures such as developing a normal bowel routine, strengthening perineal exercises, and supporting the anus by manipulation during defecation, as well as non-surgical treatments such as buttock ligatures (repositioning of the prolapsed mucosa and then fixation), sclerotherapy injections, mucosal ligatures, and infrared coagulation.
