Frozen shoulder is a disease caused by degenerative changes and acute or chronic injuries to the tendons, ligaments, tendon sheaths, bursae and other soft tissues in and around the shoulder joint, combined with localized aseptic inflammation caused by wind, cold and dampness, resulting in pain and dysfunction of the shoulder. This disease is also known as “fifty shoulders”, “frozen shoulders”, “leaky shoulder”, “shoulder paralysis” and other names in Chinese medicine. The disease is more common in manual workers and is slightly more common in women than men. Many Western doctors currently believe that frozen shoulder requires minimally invasive surgery to repair damage to the shoulder joint. However, historically, the treatment of frozen shoulder has not required surgical intervention. This disease can be completely cured by Chinese medicine. Causes 1. Trauma causes frozen shoulder Trauma is undoubtedly an important factor in the development of frozen shoulder. A serious trauma, such as shoulder dislocation, ligament tear and shoulder fracture, puts the shoulder joint in a braking state for a long time, followed by fibrous tissue hyperplasia and adhesion, which restricts the shoulder movement. Therefore, it is easy to cause frozen shoulder after trauma. 2. The relationship between age and gender and frozen shoulder Frozen shoulder has the highest incidence in the age group of 40-60 years old. Younger patients are more likely to suffer from post-traumatic injury, soft tissue lesions and bony degeneration in old age. In male patients, the onset of frozen shoulder is due to high load on the shoulder and long duration of time; in female patients, it is due to pregnancy and decrease in estrogen secretion which leads to relaxation of some ligaments in the shoulder joint and deposition of calcium ions. 3.The relationship between climate and frozen shoulder Humidity and cold can cause or induce frozen shoulder, many patients are sensitive to climate change and have the feeling of “barometer”. 4.The relationship between posture and work posture and frozen shoulder The different occupations make the shoulder often in different positions and work postures. The unfavorable posture of the structures around the shoulder joint can lead to the occurrence of frozen shoulder. Heavy manual laborers, because the shoulder is overloaded for a long time and causes corresponding changes. Work postures, such as long-term ambulation, long-term upper limb lifting, abduction and other postures, cause strain on the bone joints and their soft tissues and lead to frozen shoulder. In addition, people who work in cold and humid environments for a long time are also very likely to suffer from frozen shoulder. 5.The relationship between shoulder degeneration and frozen shoulder The shoulder degeneration includes degeneration of the shoulder joint, degeneration of the soft tissue of the shoulder and degeneration of the bone structure of the shoulder. The pathological changes of these degenerations are the important basis for the development of frozen shoulder. This disease is caused by the deficiency of qi and blood or the deficiency of liver and kidney, and the invasion of wind, cold and dampness, which block the meridians. In the treatment, we should use traditional Chinese medicine to treat both the symptoms and the root cause, dispel wind and cold, regulate qi and blood, and nourish the liver and kidney, supplemented by external ointment application and tendon rehabilitation treatment, and at the same time, we ask patients to cooperate with shoulder joint rotation practice treatment, so that the stubborn disease can be recovered. Note: Patients with frozen shoulder need to seek medical treatment in a timely manner. When the symptoms are mild at the onset, patients often think that they will get better after a while and delay the treatment, which leads to gradual aggravation of the disease and prolongs the treatment process. The shoulder joint exercise is an effective way to prevent and treat frozen shoulder. Strengthening the shoulder joint muscles can prevent and delay the occurrence and development of frozen shoulder. According to the survey, the chances of frozen shoulder attack decreased a lot among people with well-developed shoulder muscles and high strength, so the exercise of the ligaments and muscles around the shoulder joint is powerful and important for the treatment and recovery of frozen shoulder. 2, avoid wind and cold Cold is often a trigger factor for frozen shoulder, so in order to prevent frozen shoulder, middle-aged and elderly people should pay attention to keeping warm and cold, do not make the shoulder cold. Once you catch a cold, you should treat it in time and avoid delaying treatment. Do not blow the air conditioner against the shoulder joint. 3, prevent strain injury such as long-term ambulation or long-term a certain posture, so that the bone joint and its soft tissue strain is a common cause of frozen shoulder. Therefore, it is important to adjust your body posture in your daily work or life to avoid strain.
