Cold hands and feet and fear of cold may have vascular disease

With the arrival of winter, some people find it difficult to survive, one of the reasons is that the hands or feet are particularly cold and afraid of cold. Among these people with cold hands and feet, some of them may have vascular problems, which are the early manifestations of vascular diseases, and if the time for treatment is lost, it may lead to irreversible and serious consequences, to which attention should be drawn. Under normal circumstances the local temperature of the body and blood flow has a certain relationship. If the blood flow is high, the temperature will be high, and if the blood supply is reduced, the temperature will be lower. Normal people in cold conditions, peripheral vascular contraction, so that the skin temperature decreases, with the ambient temperature increases the temperature can quickly return to normal. Patients with vascular disease, because the blood vessels are in a state of contraction under the stimulation of cold, or the original arteries have narrow lesions, the blood supply to the extremities is less, the hands and feet are particularly cold and afraid of cold. Especially some elderly people or patients with combined diabetes, if the hands and feet feel particularly cold and cold, they should be alert to the possibility of vascular disease. Common ischemic diseases of the extremities include thrombo-occlusive vasculitis (referred to as vasculitis), atherosclerotic occlusive disease, and diabetic limb ischemia. These diseases are early with the main symptom of cold hands and feet of the diseased limbs, always put on cotton clothes or cotton shoes prematurely than others, or feel cold feet at night when sleeping or even overnight not warm. Typical early manifestations include intermittent claudication: the patient walks at a certain speed for a certain distance and then experiences soreness and pain in the lower leg or the entire lower limb, or feels that the lower limb is heavy and difficult to lift, and is forced to stop walking, and the symptoms can be alleviated or relieved after resting for a while, and the symptoms recur after continuing to walk for a certain distance. In the early stage of the disease, some patients have no obvious discomfort when walking on a flat surface, but feel soreness in the lower extremities when climbing (such as going upstairs). Some patients have pale or bruised skin on one or more fingers of both hands after getting cold, which quickly returns to normal after warming. This manifestation is more common in women, but can also occur in the toes or other areas. This is called Raynaud’s phenomenon and is often an early manifestation of vascular disease. Cold hands and feet with intermittent claudication is an early manifestation of lower body ischemia, and this process can even last for several years. If a clear diagnosis is made and correct treatment is given at this stage, patients can mostly be spared the great pain caused by limb ulceration and necrosis. However, unfortunately, there are fewer people who visit the doctor at this stage, and at this time, patients are not aware that it is a pathological state, and often think that it is a normal phenomenon of old age and weakness and do not pay attention to it, losing the valuable time for treatment. The patient often sits with his feet in his arms, has trouble sleeping at night, cries and moans, and suffers a long time of pain and suffering. It should also be noted that because the ischemic limb is cold and afraid of cold, many patients use local heating, which is an incorrect and dangerous move, and a number of patients are caused by local heating and gangrene ulcers. In particular, patients with diabetes are prone to peripheral neuritis and dullness of sensation, which can lead to burns on the foot during the process of local heating with a warm water bag, etc. and cause serious consequences. Therefore, the feeling of cold limbs should not be careless, should be promptly to the vascular disease specialist to clear diagnosis, so as not to lose valuable treatment time and cause lifelong regret!
