What should I do about my child’s cough?

The weather has been changing a lot in recent times and many children have coughs and fevers, so parents look at them with anxiety and give them some cough syrup and anti-inflammatory drugs. In this regard, Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, reminds that this is exactly the misconception that exists when treating pediatric coughs. Academician Zhong reminds that one of the most common misconceptions in treating pediatric cough is the indiscriminate use of antibiotics for children. In addition to the common acute bronchitis, conditions such as sinusitis can also cause cough in children. In addition, there are many other causes of cough in children, such as reflux of gastric juices from the esophagus and larger pieces of earwax in the ears that can also cause coughing. The only way to stop a child from coughing is to take the right medicine for the problem, such as stomach medicine or taking out the earwax. Another common misconception is that parents rush to give cough suppressants to their children as soon as they cough, according to Zhong Nanshan. Therefore, children with phlegm cough should choose drugs with phlegm-removing function for expectorant treatment in the early stage, and the cough will naturally reduce after the phlegm is removed.
