The best time to treat carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a disease caused by increased pressure in the carpal tunnel due to hypertrophy of the transverse carpal ligament or swelling in the carpal tunnel, resulting in entrapment of the median nerve, and is best treated as soon as possible after diagnosis. Carpal tunnel syndrome is not difficult to diagnose early based on clinical manifestations and characteristic physical examinations, and electromyography of the upper limbs. Early treatment is an effective way to control the development of the disease, which can start with conservative treatment, such as wrist braking, rest, intramuscular injection of nerve-nourishing drugs, and static drip of dehydrating drugs, etc. The purpose is to reduce the pressure in the carpal tunnel, reduce the compression on the median nerve, and alleviate the clinical symptoms. If timely treatment is not provided, it may trigger the aggravation of median nerve compression and conservative treatment cannot relieve the symptoms, thus surgery must be chosen. Commonly used surgical methods include incisional surgery, small incision decompression, endoscopic surgery, etc. Postoperative patients should start functional exercises as early as possible, including exercises for shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand and finger functions.
