Epilepsy is classified based on clinical and EEG (interictal and ictal) manifestations. Clenching of the teeth is most easily observed by everyone, but not all seizures exhibit clenching of the teeth. Why is this? Because epileptic symptoms arise as a result of clinical manifestations caused by abnormal over-discharge of some neurons in the brain. These manifestations include a sudden and brief abnormality that involves motor (deflective posture, phonological), sensory (somatosensory, visual, auditory, olfactory, taste), autonomic (epigastric sensation, pallor, sweating, flushing, etc.), and mental events (speech disturbances, memory disturbances such as déjà vu, fearful rage), depending on the site of the abnormal discharge. Therefore, parents need to pay attention when they observe symptoms in their children that cannot be explained by legitimate reasons.
