What is occult penis?

Cryptogenic penis is a congenital malformation of the penis, which is characterized by short penis appearance and normal penile body development. The main cause of anaplasia is the abnormal development of the penile meatus, which can be divided into complete and incomplete. In complete anaplasia, the head of the penis cannot be exposed, which means that there is also a prepuce. In this case, because it affects the normal development of the penile body, surgery is usually required. Incomplete means that the head of the penis can be exposed, and the need for surgery is usually determined by the age, the development of the penis, and the psychological impact of the appearance of the penis on the child. It is especially important to note that occult penis cannot be circumcised, nor can it be treated by hormone injections. In recent years, we have made great improvements to the surgical method of occult penis. For children who are not obese, we generally adopt the method of partial fat removal and fixation at the root; for obese children, we adopt the method of simultaneous dorsal and ventral surgery. The current post-operative appearance is close to the normal post-circumcision appearance. However, it is important to remind that this surgery must be performed by a specialized pediatric urologist.
