There is no good or bad yawning, but it is important to distinguish between physiological and pathological yawning, and to determine whether the cause requires specific treatment. If the yawning is physiological and is caused by a lack of sleep, there is usually no need to pay much attention to it and rest is sufficient. If the yawning is frequent and prolonged, it may have a pathological cause, such as obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome or cerebrovascular disease, and requires prompt medical attention to identify the problem.
