Yawning jaw pain is seen in inflammation of the temporomandibular joint. On the one hand, it stems from trauma, which damages the surrounding ligaments, joint discs, and muscles, thus causing inflammation of the temporomandibular joint and further affecting its function. On the other hand, it is caused by chronic strain, which can be caused by frequent clenching of hard objects, grinding of teeth at night, or sudden force during clenching that damages the ligaments, muscles and joint discs around the temporomandibular joint, or is related to oral surgery or frequent opening movements. It can also be seen in patients with autoimmune diseases, like rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis, which can also cause temporomandibular joint pain. TMJ pain can manifest itself as pain in the temporomandibular joint area triggered by yawning, prolonged chewing, chewing hard things, exposure to cold, and sometimes clinical symptoms such as impaired chewing and inability to open the mouth.
