Can amblyopia be cured?

Can amblyopia be cured? This question has always been a great concern for parents of amblyopic children, and is also a question that the majority of medical workers are constantly exploring. To answer this question, let’s first look at a set of data; China’s data reported that the statistical analysis of 1332 amblyopic eyes after treatment, the cure rate of the 3-year-old group was 88.03%, and the 13-year-old group was 46.15%. From these data, it can be seen that amblyopia is completely curable, but the cure rate of amblyopia decreases with age, and the key is early detection and early treatment. In addition to the age factor, whether amblyopia can be cured is also affected by many other factors, such as the severity of amblyopia, clinical typing, the nature of gaze, the degree of cooperation between parents and the child, and the appropriateness of treatment measures. If these factors can be controlled, amblyopia can be completely cured. There is a criterion for whether amblyopia has been cured, and this criterion is the criteria for evaluating the efficacy of amblyopia treatment adopted at the working meeting of the National Amblyopia and Strabismus Prevention and Control Group of the Chinese Academy of Ophthalmology in April 1996. I. Ineffective: regression of visual acuity, no change and improvement of one line. II. Progress: visual acuity improved by 2 or more rows. Basic cure: improvement of corrected visual acuity to 0.9 or above. IV. Cure: After 3 years of follow-up, the visual acuity still remains normal. The above criteria for curing amblyopia should be further explained as follows: a. There are clear regulations for vision improvement in the criteria, but it is important to understand that while vision is restored, the child must be checked to see if binocular monovision is established. Only when binocular monovision is established at the same time will amblyopia be considered completely cured functionally and amblyopia is less likely to recur. The standard of vision improvement should take into account the age factor, which means that children of different ages should be given relatively different standards of vision improvement. The cure time for amblyopia is usually as short as six months or as long as 2-3 years. Fourth, after the amblyopia is cured, it is important to emphasize how to maintain and consolidate the effect of the treatment. Some parents still have the wrong view that it doesn’t matter if their child has bad vision, it will be better naturally when they grow up, such a wrong view should not be allowed, otherwise it will delay the discovery and treatment of amblyopia in children and will affect the child’s life. Knowing that amblyopia is completely curable, and the earlier the treatment, the better the effect, I believe parents will pay attention to their children’s amblyopia and actively cooperate with doctors for amblyopia treatment.
