Is myopia hereditary?

Myopia is mainly 40% genetic, and myopia is mainly inherited as a result of high myopia. There are two types of high myopia, one is physiological and one is pathological, if it is pathological myopia, the baby’s eyes have the possibility of forming myopia, because there is a specific family heredity, there is this probability, but not necessarily all parents with high myopia have their children’s eyes with high myopia, not so, but there is a probability in it, I want to emphasize that it must be pathological high myopia. I want to emphasize that it must be pathological high myopia, if it is physiological myopia 600 degrees, or even 1000 degrees is not hereditary, that is, it is not necessarily hereditary. Pathological myopia has a genetic component, while physiological myopia does not have a genetic component. The principle and probability of inheritance from high myopia High myopia is an autosomal recessive disease, which means that a pair of genes related to myopia is the causative gene for the disease. If only one of the genes is pathogenic and the other gene is normal, the disease does not develop and the person is a carrier of the pathogenic gene. For example, if both parents are not myopic, but they are both carriers of the high myopia gene, they do not show myopia themselves, but they both pass on the disease causing gene to their child, so that the child has two myopia genes, thus making the child myopic. When a man with high myopia is married to a woman with high myopia (600 degrees or more), the chance of having a child with the disease is over 90%. If you marry a carrier of the myopia gene, half of your children may be highly myopic, while the chance of having a child with normal vision or low to moderate myopia is 1 in 10. If the high myopia is acquired physiologically, it does not have a significant impact on your child’s eye health. In order for your baby’s eyes to achieve healthy development, you must pay attention to your child’s eye hygiene after birth, such as not allowing your child to observe things for too long at close range, including close videos, or doing fine work, such as calligraphy, portraying and practicing words, etc., so that the likelihood of myopia in your child can be reduced.
