Effective methods for treating childhood epilepsy

The main effective methods for treating childhood epilepsy are as follows: 1. Surgical treatment: Those with clear epileptogenic foci, such as focal cortical dysplasia, and poor results of medical treatment should go to a specialized epilepsy center for preoperative epilepsy surgical evaluation. If epilepsy surgery is suitable, surgical treatment should be performed to remove the lesion site; 2. Drug therapy: Generally, the progress of the disease can be controlled and the number and duration of seizures can be reduced by oral administration of carbamazepine, phenobarbital, sodium valproate, tolbutamide and other drugs. However, medication needs to be administered under the guidance of a physician, and long-term medication needs to be adhered to, and the choice of medication is determined on a case-by-case basis; 3. Ketogenic diet therapy: This diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate, protein and other nutrients appropriate formula diet. Clinical data show that after one year of applying this method of treatment, children with seizure frequency reduction greater than 90% accounted for about 37% of children, 13% of whom had complete seizure control. The study also showed that 88.9% of the children were able to adhere to the ketogenic diet for more than 6 months, which is a good result. In addition to the above treatment, more attention should be paid to accompanying the child and communicating with him/her on a daily basis to prevent him/her from developing low self-esteem or autism.
