It is an undisputed fact that overweight and obesity are harmful to health, increasing the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, in addition to gallbladder disorders, arthritis and so on. Recently, a report published in the Chinese Journal of Health Management pointed out that obesity may cause a variety of cancers and should be vigilant. The study included data from 5.24 million British people aged 16 years and older, who were followed for 7.5 years. These people were cancer-free at the time of inclusion in the study, and at the end of follow-up, 167,000 people had cancer, involving more than 20 types of cancer, 10 of which were significantly associated with body mass index (BMI), such as BMI increased by 5, the risk of endometrial cancer, gallbladder cancer, kidney cancer and cervical cancer increased by 62%, 31%, 25% and 10%, respectively. In addition, overweight and obesity also increase the risk of thyroid, leukemia, liver, colon, ovarian and breast cancers.
