Can hydrogen peroxide treat otitis media?

Hydrogen peroxide cannot be used to routinely treat middle ear inflammation. If a patient has an acute otitis media condition that is simply characterized by acute congestion and swelling of the eardrum, and there is no obvious inflammatory or purulent discharge in the ear canal, hydrogen peroxide is usually not needed. If the patient has a large accumulation of purulent inflammatory secretions in the ear canal or even in the middle ear cavity, which is difficult to clean out smoothly or thoroughly, hydrogen peroxide drops can be used in this case to provide a sufficient dilution and decomposition effect to facilitate further use of the suction device to clean out these inflammatory secretions more thoroughly and keep the ear canal and middle ear cavity in a smooth drainage state. Hydrogen peroxide drops are only used as an adjunct to cleaning the ear canal and not as a regular treatment for otitis media.
