When inflammation occurs in the female internal genital organs (e.g., uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, pelvic peritoneum) and their surrounding connective tissues and pelvic peritoneum, it is called pelvic inflammatory disease. It is a common disease in gynecology and is divided into two types: acute and chronic. In Chinese medicine, it is called “abdominal pain”. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease usually has a history of acute infection (vaginitis, cervicitis, infection after family planning procedures such as abortion and IUI), vague pain in the lower abdomen, distension, pressure, abdominal distention, yellow leucorrhea with a smell, fever, high fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, or constipation, difficulty urinating, frequent urination, painful urination, etc. Acute inflammation may cause serious consequences such as diffuse peritonitis, sepsis and even infectious shock; chronic pelvic inflammatory disease is characterized by systemic symptoms such as occasional low-grade fever, easy fatigue, lower abdominal swelling, pain and lumbosacral aches and pains, often intensified after exertion, sexual intercourse, before and after menstruation. It can be caused by incomplete treatment of acute pelvic inflammatory disease, or the patient’s poor physical condition and weak virulence of pathogenic bacteria, which can be chronic at the beginning. Chronic inflammation leads to pelvic blood stasis, causing dysmenorrhea, excessive menstruation, menstrual disorders, and infertility when the fallopian tubes are obstructed by adhesions. Chronic inflammation affects women’s normal work and life as well as their physical and mental health due to recurrent episodes of untreated inflammation. In principle, the treatment of acute pelvic inflammatory disease should be thorough and should not be delayed. The main treatment is with antibiotics (including: broad-spectrum antibiotics and anti-anaerobic drugs). Chinese medicine treatment: clearing heat, detoxifying and relieving dampness, promoting blood circulation and relieving pain. Prescriptions: Wu Wei Disinfectant Drink, Red Vine Defeat San, etc. In severe cases, such as pelvic abscess, surgical treatment is needed to cut open and drain the pus. Enhance rest and nutrition, etc. Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease treatment: Chinese medicine treatment is the main treatment, combined with Chinese and Western medicine treatment, mostly with 2-5 methods of integrated treatment. Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment: the evil of dampness, heat, cold and dampness wrestle with qi and blood in the punching and uterus, qi stagnation, blood flow is not smooth, not pass, then pain. For damp-heat and stagnant knots, the doctor will use the method of clearing heat and dampness and dissolving stagnant knots; for cold-damp and stagnant knots, the doctor will use the method of warming the meridians and dispersing cold, dissolving stagnant and dispelling dampness. In the case of cold-damp stasis, the treatment is to warm up the meridians and disperse the cold and remove dampness.
