Rib fractures produce back pain for several common reasons: First, fractures of the posterior ribs, where the ribs are distributed in a semicircle. If a fracture of the posterior ribs occurs, the patient will show symptoms of severe back pain, and the fractured end of the rib can be found by taking an X-ray or CT 3D reconstruction. Second, the intercostal nerve is stimulated. After a rib fracture occurs, the intercostal nerve is stimulated, and the intercostal nerve travels along the intercostal space, so when the intercostal nerve is stimulated, the pain symptoms can be radiated to the back along the intercostal space, causing back pain, but the lesion is not necessarily in the back, but may be in the anterior or lateral ribs, and the patient’s pain symptoms are usually severe, requiring bed rest and external fixation of the chest strap to relieve. Therefore, back pain in patients with rib fractures is caused by the above two causes, and timely diagnosis and treatment will result in satisfactory relief of pain symptoms, and the patient can resume normal life and work.
