Xinhua Hospital is a dream come true for Mr. Wu, who received a “three-pronged” ablation treatment for atrial fibrillation in our cardiology department in the spring of 2004, and has since been completely cured. In the past 12 years, he has never had another episode of atrial fibrillation and his heartbeat has completely returned to normal. What is even more amazing is that the enlarged heart has also shrunk and returned to normal. Mr. Wu, who has retired, has started a new chapter in his life and is full of joy as he shares his personal experience with many AF patients, who are all deeply encouraged by what they hear. Being able to restore a healthy life used to be a dream. Now that it has become a reality, Mr. Wu said with deep emotion, “My dream of good health has come true.” Recently, the Department of Cardiology of our hospital held a “Twelve Years of Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Therapy and Patient Health Promotion Activity”. Professor Li Yigang led a team to give a wonderful health lecture to the majority of atrial fibrillation patients, introducing the “three-pronged” atrial fibrillation ablation therapy in easy-to-understand language, as well as the reliable long-term follow-up. He introduced the “three-pronged” atrial fibrillation ablation treatment method and the reliable efficacy of long-term follow-up. Many recovered patients like Mr. Wu gathered together to share their treatment experiences and listen to health education. How to correctly understand atrial fibrillation and how to do preventive health care is a hot topic of concern for atrial fibrillation patients and their families. Prof. Li Yigang and other cardiologists gave careful answers to all the concerns. The experts listened carefully to the patients’ complaints, and they integrated professional medical knowledge into layman’s language to give comprehensive and patient explanations on the symptoms, hazards, examination means and treatment methods of atrial fibrillation. With the aging of the population, the incidence of atrial fibrillation has increased dramatically and is now a common disease, and in 2004, Yi Gang Li and his team, who returned from Germany, pioneered the “three-pronged” ablation of atrial fibrillation in China, which has attracted much attention in the industry. This method of atrial fibrillation catheter ablation has obvious advantages, with an immediate success rate of more than 95% in pulmonary vein electrical isolation and a clear and intuitive endpoint validated by a standard test, and was soon applied in many large hospitals across China. Over the past twelve years, the “three-pronged” atrial fibrillation ablation treatment method has been proven to be very effective, and after treatment, many patients have said goodbye to atrial fibrillation, restored a healthy heartbeat and improved their quality of life. Currently, pulmonary vein electrical isolation is included in the international guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation as the cornerstone of catheter ablation therapy for atrial fibrillation. The team led by Professor Li Yigang has achieved several impressive results and won several national and Shanghai-level awards. As the first unit in China to carry out radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation, our cardiovascular medicine department is a key construction discipline of the hospital and medical school, and one of the constituent units of the national key discipline of cardiovascular medicine, and in 2012 took the lead in establishing the Cardiac Arrhythmia Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University. Under the leadership of Prof. Li Yigang, the department has extensively carried out radiofrequency ablation of various complex arrhythmias and interventional treatment of slow-type arrhythmias, such as single and double chamber pacemakers and ICD implantation, with success rates reaching international advanced level.
