Metabolic syndrome (MS) refers to an aggregation of diseases associated with insulin resistance. It is a syndrome with central obesity, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, low HDL cholesterol, decreased glucose tolerance or type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as the main manifestations. Among them, obesity and T2DM may be the initiation and central link of MS, while insulin resistance is the common cause of MS.
Insulin resistance is the common pathogenesis of MS in which various metabolic abnormalities are clustered. Clinical observation shows that patients with metabolic syndrome with obesity can have significant improvement in blood glucose, lipids and blood pressure after surgical treatment.
Therefore, surgery opens a new path for the treatment of patients with metabolic syndrome.
