It needs to be case dependent. Different types of vomiting can vary in severity. If an infant or toddler only spills or spurts a small amount of milk after breastfeeding, this is common and parents need not be overly alarmed. If the child is in good spirits and only vomits slightly, or has symptoms such as mild diarrhoea, parents can observe the situation first. However, if the vomiting is repeated, prolonged, or accompanied by vomiting blood, blood in the stool, or even symptoms such as coma, purple lips and breathing difficulties, this is considered severe vomiting and should be treated immediately by the emergency paediatrician.
