How to distinguish facial muscle spasm from epilepsy and facial twitching

1, facial muscle spasm symptoms are not typical, facial electromyography can be done to monitor abnormal electromyographic response (AMR), most patients have positive AMR response, which can provide supporting evidence for the diagnosis and support the diagnosis of facial muscle spasm. 2, Facial myoclonus and epilepsy can both manifest as facial muscle twitching, but the etiology is different and so is the treatment. Facial myoclonus is often caused by intracranial arterial vascular compression of the segment of the facial nerve exiting the brainstem and generally requires surgical treatment called microvascular decompression. Epilepsy is caused by transient abnormal discharges in the cerebral cortex. When the facial cortex is involved, facial muscle twitching can occur, along with blurred consciousness, or with limb twitching, when an EEG is done, abnormal cortical discharges can be seen.
