How can I tell if my hymen is broken?

The determination of whether the hymen is ruptured needs to be made by a professional doctor based on symptoms and signs, and cannot be based on whether or not it is bleeding.
The hymen can be seen under the microscope as a thin circular layer of mucous membrane attached to the edge of the vaginal entrance, and after rupture will appear as a hymenal scar of varying regularity.
However, as some women have ruptured hymens that heal on their own, checking for hymenal integrity does not exclude previous hymenal damage.
