Drinking coffee may cause panic, especially strong coffee will cause panic symptoms more obvious. Coffee contains caffeine, and excessive caffeine will cause sympathetic excitement, which will cause the heart rate to increase, and symptoms such as panic will occur. Therefore, if patients have panic attacks when drinking coffee, they should drink less coffee and drink light tea or lemon water. Patients who have frequent panic attacks can also have a general electrocardiogram or ambulatory electrocardiogram to further rule out the possibility of arrhythmia. Thyroid function tests and blood tests should also be done to exclude anemia and hyperthyroidism from causing panic attacks.
