Finger fracture pin removal is a minor surgery, whether it is painful or not depends on the individual’s physical condition, the location of the fixed steel pin, etc., and cannot be generalized. The steel needle should be fully disinfected when it is removed to avoid bacteria entering the nail eye or incision, which can lead to the occurrence of infection, mainly divided into the following two cases: 1. The tail of the needle is exposed: the end of the steel needle is not very painful when it is exposed outside the skin, and the needle is usually pulled out without the patient’s attention. However, some patients who are more sensitive to pain may experience pain. If the patient is worried about the pain, local anesthesia can be administered under the doctor’s guidance to relieve the painful symptoms; 2. Complete entry of the steel needle: If the steel needle is not exposed outside the skin, but inside the skin, an incision is needed to remove the steel needle. Generally, anesthesia is needed for the surgery. After the anesthesia, there will be wound pain due to the incision in the skin, and painkillers may be needed to relieve the pain. Patients need to remove the pins after the fracture has healed to avoid premature removal of the pins, which may lead to re-displacement of the fractured end. After the pin is removed, the dressing should be applied and removed only after the nail eye has healed completely for 5-7 days.
